The UAE has launched a four-day Entrepreneurship Week to help students and graduates turn their business ideas into real ventures. The initiative began on 19 October 2026 and will run until 22 October across six higher-education institutions. It is led by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR), in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and Tourism.
The programme is part of the UAE Entrepreneurial Nation initiative. It aims to encourage young people to explore entrepreneurship, showcase new business ideas and connect higher education with business creation. The launch also highlights the role that student and graduate ventures can play in supporting the wider economy.
Six Institutions to Showcase Student and Graduate Ventures
The participating institutions are Zayed University, Higher Colleges of Technology, the University of Sharjah, the American University of Sharjah, Ajman University and the American University of Ras Al Khaimah.
During the event, students and graduates will present their projects, products and services. The programme will also include entrepreneurial success stories, a freelancing session and opportunities for participants to share their experiences. Outstanding projects will receive recognition as part of the activities.
The initiative gives emerging entrepreneurs a chance to present their ideas and learn about available support. It also encourages them to consider the practical steps needed to turn an early-stage project into a working business.
Intellectual Property and SME Support in Focus
Protecting a business idea is an important part of developing a venture. During Entrepreneurship Week, the Ministry of Economy and Tourism will provide awareness sessions on intellectual property, patents and trademarks.
Participants will also learn about services available through the National Programme for Small and Medium Enterprises. These activities aim to help students and graduates understand the support they may be able to access as they develop their businesses.
Participating universities will identify and classify projects established by students and graduates. They will then share relevant project information with MOHESR under the initiative’s criteria.
Graduate-founded companies seeking the relevant support must be wholly owned by graduates. Founders should check the eligibility requirements before assuming that their businesses qualify for assistance.
What New Entrepreneurs Should Do Next
Entrepreneurship Week offers a platform to showcase ideas, but building a sustainable business requires further planning. Founders need to understand their customers, estimate costs and set realistic financial goals.
A clear business plan can help turn an idea into practical steps. Business planning services can support this process by helping founders assess their goals and prepare for future growth. Budgeting and forecasting services can also help businesses estimate income, plan expenses and manage cash flow.
Founders should also consider the process of registering and structuring their businesses. Choosing a suitable setup, keeping accurate records and understanding applicable tax obligations can help them prepare for day-to-day operations.
Without proper planning, a promising idea may struggle to move beyond the early stages. Participants should use the event to ask questions, explore relevant support and identify the next steps for developing their ventures.
How DBTA Can Help Businesses Build a Strong Foundation
Turning an idea into a company involves more than developing a product or service. Businesses also need organised financial records and a clear understanding of their responsibilities.
Dubai Business and Tax Advisors (DBTA) provides business setup consultancy, bookkeeping services, budgeting and forecasting services, and tax advisory services. These services can help entrepreneurs understand company formation requirements, organise financial information, plan spending and prepare for applicable tax and compliance obligations.
For new founders, professional guidance can make it easier to understand the practical requirements of running a business. The right support can also help them build stronger financial processes as their operations develop.
The UAE’s Entrepreneurship Week runs from 19 to 22 October 2026 across six higher-education institutions. For students and graduates with business ideas, the initiative offers an opportunity to gain exposure, learn about available support and take informed steps towards building a sustainable venture.
